Frequently Asked Questions About LinkBox™
What is LinkBox?
How do microsites differ from traditional websites?
How do microsites differ from traditional websites?
How does the LinkBox program work in a nutshell?
- The parent company or organization licenses LinkBox technology from Marketing In Color.
- Marketing In Color works with the company to produce the templates that will be used by each member of the company’s team to create their own individual co-branded microsites.
- Marketing In Color also works with the company to re-skin the back end of the LinkBox system (tracking & reporting) with the company’s branding.
- The company promotes the system to its team (the company can license LinkBox and resell to the team – and include a markup, if desired – or the program can be set up so that each team member pays Marketing In Color directly).
- Each team member goes to an online signup page and generates a custom microsite.
Does the LinkBox program work best when the team members are employed by the parent company, or independent?
Team members can be employed or independent of the parent company. The important distinction is that they work independently from the parent company, having a high level of autonomy to create their own success.
The functionality of each microsite is tied directly to the team member who has generated his or her own site. For example, requested appointments and inquiries go straight to that individual. Referrals that are made through a team member’s microsite include a link back to the same team member’s microsite. These tools encourage and empower team members to use and promote their microsites in whatever creative ways they can.
Marketing In Color provides online support to individual team members, to help them use and promote their microsites most effectively.
Why do you call them microsites - not websites?
We always use the term microsite, not website, when talking about LinkBox. Our marketing white paper does a good job of explaining the microsite concept. You can download the current version here.
Websites conjure up thoughts of a long, laborious process associated with launching a site. Initial design and concepting, content collection, text writing, approval processes, finding a host, purchasing a domain, etc.
The LinkBox system already exists, and only involves a straight-forward process of customizing or re-skinning it for your company’s use.
A LinkBox microsite can be signed up for and ready for use by the team members in less than 5 minutes.
How do LinkBox microsites differ from other microsites?

How is LinkBox so affordable?
In the past, creating an individually-branded microsite for every member of a large sales organization would have been very costly and labor-intensive.
Marketing In Color has invested in the development of a sophisticated, proprietary system that streamlines all the effort. We work with each of our client companies to personalize the system and once it’s ready to go, the company’s individual team members can create their own microsites on the fly. Most are up and running within 5 minutes!
What content does a team member have to provide in order to get started with a LinkBox microsite?
Users can sign up quickly, because so little is required to start using the system. This is a HUGE advantage, because requiring too much content can be a barrier to entry. These are the items the sales form asks for:
- Contact information – Name, phone, email, etc.
- Upload a photo – this can be a photo of an individual, a company logo, or some other representative image of their choosing.
- Days of operation.
- Display name – this can be an individual’s name or the name of a company.
- Choose a web address. Because the domain is established by the parent company, the team member need only decide what they wish to add to the end of the existing URL. www.PARENTCOMPANYDOMAIN.com/USERNAME
- Choose A Password – This is the password they’ll use to sign in for back-end reporting.
- Choose a template.
- Agree to the End-User License Agreement.
What are the monthly subscription costs for LinkBox?
LinkBox is a subscription-based service for which most clients pay just $10 per month, per user or less, depending on quantities. Subscription fees are calculated based on the total number of subscribers each month; the more subscribers, the lower the monthly cost for all subscribers.
Subscription fees are payable by the company, or by each individual microsite user, on a monthly basis. If individual subscribers pay for part or all of the subscription fees, the system can be set up so the subscribers pay the company and the company pays Marketing In Color, or they can pay Marketing In Color directly. The system is flexible and adaptable to the company’s needs.
How is LinkBox hosted?
All technology is hosted and acquired data stored on MIC secure servers, so there is virtually no integration necessary with your company’s IT systems.
Can my company add additional elements to a microsite beyond the basics?
Absolutely! Anything that can go on an ordinary web page can go into the microsite design. Such as embedded videos or other Flash elements, for example. Even Fan Page Boxes and Twitter feeds, if they desire.
Can Marketing In Color provide services for video production or Flash development services?
Yes. Just let us know what is needed and we we’ll provide an estimate.
Can a microsite be tied to an e-commerce portal?
In some cases. Please ask us.
Are there admin level controls or reporting for the parent company?
At this time, we do not offer an integrated admin level dashboard for the parent company. However, we can utilize Gmail as a reporting system for the parent company to monitor activities of all the sites on a global basis.
For admin level functions such as deleting accounts, we provide a reporting process whereby the parent company can alert Marketing In Color to perform those tasks.
It is in our plans to provide this functionality to the parent company in our next version of LinkBox.

How do I get started with LinkBox?
Once you sign a contract, Marketing In Color takes its core program structure and modifies it to meet the specific needs of your company. This includes the creation of the template designs that will be used in the program. This process typically takes 2-4 weeks, depending on your needs and your company’s internal approval process.
What is the up-front development cost to customize the LinkBox system for my company's use?
This can vary, but typically $5K-$10K for initial program setup, to tailor the back-end functionality to your company’s needs and to create templates.
What is the up-front development cost to customize the LinkBox system for my company's use?
For technical reasons, no. Further, using the same URL totally defeats the purpose of setting apart your microsites from the main website. So instead of www.YOURDOMAIN.com/USERNAME, your site should be www.YOURMICROSITEDOMAIN.com/USERNAME
If my company is using independent team members who have their own companies and, in many cases, their own websites, can they publish links to their websites from my LinkBox microsites?
That depends. Does your team represent your competitors’ products, as well? If so, you probably wouldn’t want them to publish their web addresses. If they sell your products exclusively, you may want them to have the ability to publish their own companies' web addresses.
